SWAT standoff leads to arrest of man wanted for Baytown homicide

28-year-old Raymond Riley is now facing murder charges

HOUSTON – A three-hour standoff ended in southeast Houston early Wednesday with the arrest of a man wanted for murder in Baytown.

Police say 28-year-old Raymond Riley was wanted for questioning in the murder of a 54-year-old man in the 6000 block of Garth Road. At the time, police believed he may be driving the victim's red 2007 Mercedes C230.

"We'd talk off and on," said Floyd Broussard. Broussard lives in the unit below the victim's apartment.

The victim's name has not been identified.

On Wednesday morning, officers say they found the victim's Mercedes in the parking lot of a Walmart store in the 2300 block of South Wayside and say it appeared to have been intentionally set on fire.

Police located Riley at the Houston Inn Suites motel nearby and arrested him after a three-hour standoff.

"It was really scary," said Mary, who's staying at the motel with her sons, ages 3 and 23.

"I was like, 'oh my god,' it was right from my block," she continued.

Baytown Police told KPRC2 they plan to release more information about the murder investigation later Wednesday.
