1 person injured when SUV smashes through Smashburger restaurant in SW Houston

HOUSTON – One person was injured when a SUV smashed into a Smashburger Sunday afternoon in southwest Houston.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. in the 5200 block of Buffalo Speedway Street.

The founder of Smashburger, Tom Ryan, said the SUV was parked in front of the Smashburger when the driver accidently put it in reverse, instead of drive and accelerated into the restaurant.

Ryan said one customer inside was injured and transported by ambulance to a hospital.

There is a significant amount of damage done to the Smashburger, but it is still open for business

 Ryan said the incident was very unfortunate, but he was happy no one was seriously injured.
