Suspect wounded in officer-involved shooting in SW Houston, police say

HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a suspect was shot in a confrontation with officers Saturday in southwest Houston, police said.

The shooting happened at 2:40 p.m. in the 8700 block of South Braeswood Boulevard.

Houston police said they were responding to a disturbance call of a man pointing a gun at pedestrians at a Fiesta parking lot.

Police said when officers arrived, the man was nowhere to be found and they begin searching the area. Police said two officers found the suspect and gave him commands, but the suspect reached for a gun and officers opened fire. 

Police said the suspect was shot three times and taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he is in critical condition.

Police said no officers were injured in the shooting.

The suspect's mental state is unclear, and the shooting is under investigation.
