HOUSTON - A suspect has been charged in the brutal beating of a man in northeast Houston.

Police said Armando Vasquez-Martinez, 56, and another man, Antonio Salazar, 51, were in an argument in the front yard of an abandoned home in the 1600 block of Elysian near Brooks Street around 10 p.m. on Feb. 13.

Investigators said Martinez grabbed a bat and began beating Salazar, then chased him into the street where he continued to hit him with the bat. Martinez then took off, leaving Salazar lying in the road, investigators said.

Officials said moments later, Salazar was run over by a car.

There's no word yet on whether Salazar died from the beating or being run over by a vehicle, but Martinez has been charged with manslaughter.
