The statement also said the student was in violation of the school's code of conduct and is being addressed accordingly.

Here is the statement sent home to parents:

Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to keep you informed, I wanted to let you know that this morning McCullough Junior High administration found a gun on campus that had been in the possession of a student. No threats were made against any students or the school, and we have no indication there was any intent to use the handgun. This is a serious violation of the law and the Student Code of Conduct and is being addressed accordingly. Safety is always our top priority and I appreciate the coordination of our students, administration, and campus police officer in the reporting of and assistance with the issue.

The first week of school I personally met with all students to outline safety expectations on our campus. If your child ever has a concern in the community or at school, he/she is encouraged to speak to any of our adults directly at any time which is what happened this morning when students reported that a fellow classmate was showing off a weapon. I encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of telling a trusted adult about any item they see or action they witness that threatens campus security.  Remind them that for safety concerns, they should contact campus administration, Conroe ISD Police Dispatch at 936-709-8911 or anonymously report information to CISD’s KidChat hotline at 1-888-KidChat (543-2428)."
