Police said the student did not pose a threat to the school.

Pearland ISD released the following statement:

"On Friday morning, March 9, a Pearland High School CrimeStoppers tip led to a student found in possession of a firearm in a backpack. At no time was the firearm removed from the backpack.

"Immediately, we began an investigation with assistance from the Pearland Police Department. A student has been taken into custody by Pearland Police, who also recovered the weapon. At this time there is no threat to the school or students on campus.

"Pearland ISD student and staff safety is always our first priority. Because this is an ongoing police investigation, further information may be obtained from the Pearland Police Department."

No one was injured in the incident.

Many parents are wondering how the gun got inside the school in the first place.

Travis Pryor picked his daughter up from school early Friday as a precaution.

"Especially what's been happening on the news lately -- schools being shot shot up. I didn't want my child to be affected even though everything was fine -- but it should have never gotten to that point," Pryor said.

Officials said the school does not have metal detectors.

The case remains under investigation.
