HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A Harris County woman was arrested after allegedly abusing her stepchild.

Tara Tew Plummer, 26, is charged with injury to a child. According to court documents, an 11-year-old girl told investigators her stepmother beat her with extension cords, tree branches, belts and paddles on several occasions between May 1, 2013, and Oct. 1, 2013.

Court documents state in one incident, the girl said her stepmother pushed her into a bathtub, causing her to fall and injure her head.

Investigators say the girl told them her stepmother choked her until she could not breathe and, in another incident, held a kitchen knife to her face.

According to court documents, a doctor who treated the 11-year-old girl said there was "evidence of physical abuse."

Child Protective Services has removed the girl and her four siblings from the care and custody of the stepmother.
