Spring man acquitted after being jailed in Dominican Republic on drug-smuggling charges

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – A Spring man that had been fighting for his right to a fair trial for more than a year after being jailed in the Dominican Republic on drug-smuggling charges was acquitted Tuesday, his attorney said.

Larry Davis was accused of transporting drugs to another person on a boat he leased.

His wife, Stacy Davis, proclaimed his innocence from the start.

His attorney, Sean Buckley, said Davis, whose trial began last Wednesday, was found not guilty by a three judge panel.

The panel ordered Davis's immediate release, which could take up to 48 hours, Buckley said.

Buckley said the state could appeal the decision but it is unlikely.

As soon as Davis is released he plans to fly back to Houston, Buckley said.
