Police: Chase that began in Houston ends with fatal crash in Stafford

HOUSTON – A police chase in southwest Houston on Thursday ended in a fatal crash in Stafford, according to authorities.

Houston police said the chase began in the 11000 block of South Sam Houston Parkway and ended in the 10300 block of West Airport Road.

According to police, an officer noticed the vehicle did not have a license plate and tried to pull the driver over. The driver sped away and turned onto West Airport Boulevard.

Police said the chase ended when the vehicle that was being pursued flipped, throwing a person from the vehicle.

"The vehicle pulled away from him going in excess of 90 mph and then the vehicle hit two curbs," Assistant Chief Wendy Baimbridge said. "He lost control of the vehicle, flipped approximately four times and the final rest of the vehicle was at a fire hydrant there."

Police said the person killed was the brother of the driver who police said was being uncooperative and refused to give them his name.
