HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after someone fired shots at a couple’s SUV in west Houston.

Shawn and Sandra were in their Nissan Pathfinder driving on the West Loop when they heard what sounded like a firecracker.

“I could feel the wave of it from behind my head. I was the one actually driving, and he was on my side of the car. I didn't see a gun,” Sandra said.

Someone fired two shots at the couple’s SUV on one of the busiest freeways in the city in what police are calling a road rage incident.

“I just saw him in the shoulder. He was actually behind us, I'm guessing, when he pulled out the gun and started shooting, and as soon as the gunfire started going off, I immediately went over to my right to try to get off the freeway,” Sandra said.

The couple drove onto the Katy Freeway, exited at Wirt and pulled into the parking lot of a Home Depot to call for help.

“I was panicking. I was, like, man, we are going to die. We've got no weapon. We've got nothing. This guy is after us, and I don't know what for,” Shawn said.

The pair had been visiting a friend at an apartment complex near Highway 59 and Hillcroft. As they were saying goodbye in the parking lot, the couple noticed a suspicious looking man watching them. Shawn and Sandra say that same man then followed them onto the West Loop and opened fire.

“He could have killed us, and it's a random act of violence. God help us, there could have been my children in the back of this car,” Sandra said.

The couple went to a Home Depot in the 8400 block of the Katy Freeway and Wirt Road to report the incident. Police are calling this a road rage shooting.

Shawn believes the shooter knows his friend from the apartment complex. Shawn says the shooter was driving a late 1990’s Nissan Altima.

No one was injured.
