Shooting outside store caught on camera

Eduardo Magana shot in head outside Speedy Mart

HOUSTON – Police released surveillance video Friday, hoping it will help them find the people who shot a man at a southwest Houston convenience store.

Houston police said the group opened fire on Eduardo Magana, 18, outside the Speedy Mart in the 7400 block of Bissonnet about 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 8.

Detectives said Magana and a relative went into the store, made a purchase and began to walk back to their SUV.

A man walked toward the pair and then behind their vehicle. A short time later, a second person began shooting at Magana and his relative as they began to pull away in their SUV, investigators said.

A third person then began firing at Magana's car, police said.

Magana, the passenger in the SUV, suffered a gunshot wound to the head near his right eye. He was rushed by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Nearly a month after the shooting, he was still hospitalized. Officials said Magana is expected to survive.

Detailed descriptions of the shooter have not been released.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation. Police said it could be a case of mistaken identity.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
