HOUSTON - One person was shot during an apparent altercation that led to a car crashing into an apartment complex on the north side.

The Houston Fire Department says at around 6:15 p.m. Friday two vehicles were chasing each other inside the parking lot of an apartment complex on Cotillion in north Houston.

Shots were fired between the two cars and one person was struck.

Then one of the vehicles ran into an apartment complex. HFD says it's unclear if the person who was shot ran into the apartment.

Police were not immediately sure of how it started.

"It depends on who we are talking to," said Sgt. R. Musick. "Anything between a road rage type incident and possibly a robbery."

Musick said it started inside the apartment complex.

"The altercation led to gunfire," said Musick. "The vehicles chased each other out of the apartment complex and the vehicle behind us went into the building, and was found to have at least one gunshot wound."

Police said the driver was shot near the head. He was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.

A little boy inside an apartment was hurt and was taken to the hospital. Police said he was expected to be OK.

Investigators were looking for two suspects in a dark colored SUV.
