Several thieves wanted, thousands stolen in ATM credit card skimming operation

HOUSTON – At least 144 accounts were compromised when thieves used credit card skimmers to clone credit-debit cards and steal about $61,500 from various ATMs across Houston, authorities said.

Investigators said a bank reported on April 25 that unknown people were placing skimming devices on automated teller machines in the Houston and Katy areas. The first ATM skimming device was installed in March and removed in April, police said. The second ATM skimming device was installed and removed in April.

Cameras at the machines captured photos of several of the people believed to be involved and the cars they were driving.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the charging and/or arrest of those involved in the crime.

Information can be reported by calling 713-222-TIPS or by texting TIP610 plus the information to CRIMES. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
