6 dead, 8 injured in mass shooting at Quebec City mosque; 2 arrested, police say

Quebec police say six dead, eight wounded in mosque shooting incident on Sunday.

A tweet posted on the police department's twitter account confirms multiple fatalities and many were injured.

According to the Associated Press, Alexandre Bissonnette and Mohamed el Khadir have been arrested.

Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard termed the act "barbaric violence" and expressed solidarity with victims' families.

"Tonight, Canadians grieve for those killed in a cowardly attack on a mosque in Quebec City. My thoughts are with victims & their families," Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said on Twitter Sunday that he is deeply saddened by the loss of life. His office says no motive has been confirmed.

Police said the scene is cleared an under investigation.
