Remains found near home of missing 15-year-old girl from Shoreacres

HOUSTON – Texas EquuSearch crews believe they have found the remains of missing 15-year-old Abigail English.

According to Tim Miller of Texas EquuSearch, English's remains were found in a wooded area down the street from where the teen lived with her grandma.

Texas EquuSearch began searching for English in Shoreacres at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Miller says they found a dog collar that belonged to English's dog and a short time later they found the remains. He said the remains were badly decomposed. The wooded area is at the end of Baywood Street in the Shoreacres community of La Porte.

“Something big like this is a real shocker,” said Jodi Morris, who lives in the neighborhood.

English went missing March 22. She never returned after leaving her grandmother’s house to walk her dog. The dog later returned without its collar and leash, but English didn't. Miller says crews initially believed she was a runaway because she had family issues. “She was in foster care 13 years, all she wanted was a family and in November she comes here to a family and it just really didn’t work out,” Miller said.

A couple days ago he said he received information that led him to believe she might not be a runaway after all and crews started searching. “We’re pretty sure it’s her,” Miller said of the remains found on Saturday.

The Harris County Medical Examiner is working to positively identify the remains and determine the cause of death.
