'Sandy Survivors Helping Harvey Survivors': Trucks loaded with donations arrive in Houston

HOUSTON – An organization donated semitrailers full of supplies for families in need after Hurricane Harvey.

Tim Kramer from New York created the group a week ago.

“I’m living proof that one person can make a difference,” Kramer said.

The mission quickly grew and it filled five trucks with toiletries, diapers, cleaning supplies, non-perishable food, water and many other items.

One of the trucks rolled up to the YWCA on MLK and Yellowstone on Tuesday morning.

“Although the storm is over, the need is still great,” said YWCA Executive Director Allison Booker-Brooks.

The YWCA said they’ll first help the thousands of senior citizens they serve in Southeast Houston, Third Ward, Sunnyside and East End.

The New York group said many Texans helped during Hurricane Sandy and they wanted to return the flavor.

“They had an opportunity for Texas to send a truck there and they were so grateful that we sent something to help them; they did the favor for us,” Booker-Brooks said.

After they help their clients, starting Thursday, the YWCA will open donations to the general public. People have to first call 713-868-9922.

The YWCA was also asking for volunteers and monetary donations to help.
