San Jacinto River residents brace for another round of heavy rain

HOUSTON – The San Jacinto River has gone down quite a bit since Monday, but with rain in the forecast, the area could be in for another round of flooding.

The murky river was moving fast enough to turn brown water into white water. Channel 2 got an exclusive boat ride to some of the hardest hit areas on Tuesday.

"This is definitely the highest the water has ever been since I've lived here and probably since the '94 flood," said Greg Toole, the owner of the boat we were on.

Poole showed us other boats that were trapped, houses half underwater and a nasty oil spill on the west fork.

"We were letting as much out of the dam as we could but it was coming in faster than we could rid of it, so the water rises," Toole said.

The good news is the water is now receding.

"It's part of living on the river," said Melinda, who lives in the Forest Cove area and asked that her last name not be used.

The bad news is there is more rain in the forecast the next couple of days.

"You can either stress over it or you can just prepare for it and not be so stressed, and I choose not to be stressed over it," Melinda said.

Melinda says she plans to move all her valuables left in her home before the rain reaches the Houston area in the next few days.
