Rosenberg residents prepare for possible flooding

ROSENBERG, Texas – Residents near the Brazos in Rosenberg are bracing for whatever Harvey may bring this weekend.

San Carlos Road and Cummings Street is right near the Brazos River and it was hit hard in last year's May floods.

One thing that many folks did to prepare for future storms is lift their homes up on cinder blocks. Now, residents are bracing for whatever is coming next.

"I would take my clothes out the first thing. Move some of the cars," Robert Salinas said.

Salinas has his checklist of how he's going to prepare for Harvey.

"If the storm comes this way, we're going to gas up and we're going to leave," Salinas said.

Salinas has experienced flooding before when his car was submerged in water.

Salinas' car flooded when the Brazos river overflowed its banks in Rosenberg.

Streets flooded, people evacuated and those who stayed too long were rescued by boats.

It may be better this round.

Fort Bend's office of emergency management said the Brazos is low in its banks right now and so are the reservoirs above Rosenberg

Even with that news, Salinas is not taking any chances.

"I'm going to leave. And if it did happen again I think, I would buy someone else's house. I don't think I can rebuild again. It's too much work and too much pain," Salinas said.

Fort Bend's office of emergency management said they have been in meetings and calls all day getting ready for this storm.

They are expecting street flooding and there may be some trouble spots in areas with construction; most importantly they are asking everyone to keep an eye on the river and the weather.
