Ridge Point band offering helping hand to Willowridge band after mold ruins equipment

HOUSTON – Offering a helping hand from one band family to another.

That's what organizers with the Ridge Point High School band are doing for the band over at Willowridge High School.

"Any time you hear something good it makes you feel good that a community is coming together and you're hearing good news instead of bad news," Melinda Reckers, who is planning to donate to fundraising effort, said.

Wednesday morning, organizers are planning to fundraise and take cash donations during student drop-off at Ridgepoint.

All the money will help to replace items lost by the Willowridge band after mold was recently found throughout the school during construction. The mold is believed to be the result of prolonged humidity.

Reckers has had kids in the band.

"I will be here first thing in the morning to drop off my donation," Reckers said.

Rivalries aside, people said when it comes to bands, no matter the school -- they're all a family and they encourage others to also help out.

"We all may compete against other schools, but we are all there for the kids, all the kids," Reckers said.
