Restaurant Report Card: Roaches, rodents, slime headline health violations

HOUSTON – This week we begin at El Gallo at 2116 Gessner Road where Health Department inspectors found not just roaches but what they called “big roaches” inside the back door.

They also discovered problems with the reach-in cooler, where the temperature was measured at a balmy 60 degrees, which is just way too warm.

That cooler was quarantined and managers were ordered not to put any food in it for storage.

Moving on to the Sky Restaurant on Bellaire Boulevard, inspectors reported finding an accumulation of cockroaches in several areas:

  • By the rice cooker in the kitchen
  • On the door panel of the water heater
  • On the back of the reach-in-freezer

Workers were ordered to eliminate those cockroaches and also clean up the heavy grease and oil buildup on the kitchen's walls.

This week, we’re visiting the workers at Muoi Thuong on Bellaire where health officials found evidence of roaches and rodents inside.

Specifically, they found live roaches and rodent excrement on the kitchen floor.

This week we are sending out big congratulations to the crew at An’s Asian Kitchen.

An's scored our A-Plus Award for earning a perfect, spotless restaurant inspection report and we say booo-yaaaah!

Great job, folks!
