Restaurant Report Card: Roaches found in freezer

HOUSTON – Roaches: they're the last thing you want to think about when you are sitting down to dine, but guess what, roaches like to eat, too.

That’s why the Health Department wrote-up Hunan King located on Chimney Rock after inspectors observed several dead roaches on the floor of the kitchen.

They also reported finding rice and noodles not safe for human consumption because of temperature issues.

Up next, there's no victory for the crew at The Victory Café on Bissonnet, where inspectors found several foods being stored completely uncovered.

We’re talking about meat pie, rice, soup and lettuce all stored without lids on top.

Also this week, we paid a visit to the folks at Pho Vang 2 on the Northwest Freeway.

There, inspectors found live roaches crawling around in a container of rice.

They found more dead roaches in the freezer.

The manager told us the roaches were coming in from under the back kitchen door, where the floor seal had been worn away.

The crew has since sealed up that opening tight and brought in professional exterminators to wipe the problem out.
The manager took us on a tour of the kitchen, and we saw zero evidence of any insects or pests.

We move on next to Great Wraps at the Willowbrook Mall, where inspectors wrote about finding a flying insect actually floating inside a container of yogurt used to make smoothies.

All of that yogurt was promptly deemed unsafe and ordered to be thrown away.

We are closing it out this week at Kelly’s Cajun Grill, also located at the Willowbrook Mall, where inspectors found black mold and slime in the ice machine.

This week, we take our hats off to the gyro hero’s at Gyro Land at 9236 West Belfort in Houston.  They earn our A-Plus Award for getting a perfect restaurant inspection report.
