Restaurant Report Card: Pests plague local diners

HOUSTON – At Church’s Chicken at 3207 Old Spanish Trail, health inspectors found live roaches, dead roaches and gnats in the soda fountain area and the ice machine area.

The Houston Health Department’s order was, “Eliminate Pests.”

Traveling on to Schlotzsky’s at 9746 Katy Freeway, we arrived where inspectors ran into more pesky, appetite-killing pests.

There, inspectors found roaches and flies not being controlled.

The management was told to also provide professional pest control.

Over at Sleepy’s Po Boys at 9591 S. Main, the Health Department delivered a strong wake-up call after finding roaches both living and dead on the kitchen floor inside the storage room and cooler.

Channel 2 News spoke to the manager, who is traveling in New Orleans.

He told us over the phone that he had the entire restaurant sprayed wall-to-wall to eliminate any roaches.

He told us that he has professional pest control coming in every 30 days, and the roach problem has been completely eliminated.

Did somebody say rodents?

At Zero Sandwiches, located at 373 Greens Road, health inspectors found rodent droppings inside a bulk container of flour.

They also found rodent feces inside the utensil holder and on the floor under some ingredient containers.

Temperature problems popped up this week at Luby’s on South MacGregor.

There, officials found pasta and potatoes not safe for human consumption because they’d been stored too warm at more than 41 degrees, and that is a violation.

We finish with Bone Daddy’s House Of Smoke at 17381 Tomball Parkway, where a male employee was caught in the act of eating food on the cook line.
That behavior is prohibited.

This week, we award our coveted A-Plus award to the pizza perfectionists at Pizaro’s Pizza on Memorial Drive, where the hard-working crew earned a perfect inspection report.
