HOUSTON - The Houston Texans have traded for QB Ryan Mallett , according to a source close to the team. In a corresponding move, the Texans also released former UH standout Case Keenum.

The Texans worked out a deal with the New England Patriots after the Cowboys also showed interested in Mallett.

Keenum went 0-8 as a starter in 2013 and threw for 1,760 yards, 9 touchdowns and 6 interceptions after shattering NCAA records for the Cougars.

The Texans now have Mallett, starter Ryan Fitzpatrick and rookie Tom Savage at quarterback.

Mallett played at Arkansas during college after transferring to the Razorbacks' program from Michigan.
