Red Cross opens new shelter in Hempstead

HOUSTON – The American Red Cross opened a shelter Thursday night for those who have been evacuated or need to leave their homes because of the flooding in the Houston area.

The 24-hour shelter is located at the First Baptist Church at 445 Main Street in Hempstead.

The shelter will providing a warm, dry place to stay, food and emotional support for area residents who are not able to remain at their homes.

To donate to Red Cross Disaster Relief visit redcross.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS. Donations can also be given by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.  Donations to Disaster Relief are used to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters.
