Rat poison found in play area of doggie day care

HOUSTON – Dogs Wally and Rowdy are the Prichard family's pride and joy.

The dogs are in fairly good health, too, considering what owner Bruce Prichard said happened to the dogs Wednesday morning.

"Several people dropped their dogs off, and they were out walking the yard and they noticed that some of the dogs were eating a green substance that was on the ground," Prichard said.

That green substance turned out to be rat poison.

"It's just sad," Rene McLaughlin said.

McLaughlin owns Gimme a Bark doggie day care.

McLaughlin said someone threw the poison over the fence overnight, and an employee noticed it this morning after the dogs surrounded it.

"We shuttled them all across the street to the family animal hospital," McLaughlin said.

Four dogs had to be treated, including Wally and Rowdy.

"I don't even have a word to describe the person that would do something like that," Prichard said.

And whoever did it, many believe they did so intentionally.

"Somebody took time to do this. They took a lot of time to do this. They stood there and they threw and they threw," McLaughlin said.

A police report has been filed and the dog owners hope anyone with information about who may be responsible will come forward.

In the meantime, McLaughlin said security cameras are being installed in the backyard to prevent another incident from taking place. The pellets, meantime, have been cleaned out of the yard.

A $1000 reward is available for information that leads to an arrest.
