Rape victim put in jail after breakdown on witness stand

It is hard to imagine a prosecutor putting a rape victim who is bipolar in jail. But that's exactly what Channel 2 Investigates uncovered in a two-part series.

After a rape victim named Jenny had an obvious mental breakdown while testifying against her attacker, Harris County prosecutors decided the best way to make sure she'd return to complete her testimony was to lock her up in the Harris County Jail.

Leticia Manzano counsels rape survivors at the Houston Area Women's Center. She admits she doesn't understand how Jenny got locked up, but said the decision is surprising.

"I've never heard of something like this happening," Manzano said.

Channel 2 Investigator Jace Larson asked if Manzano worried other rape survivors would be afraid to come forward after learning about the DA's action.

"I'm always worried about sex assault victims not wanting to come forward," she said.

Big rig slams into bridge

The connecting ramp from Highway 290 to the 610 North Loop and the HOV lane reopened Thursday morning after a big rig slammed into a bridge.

Crews closed the connecting ramp and the HOV lane in northwest Houston Wednesday morning after the big rig crashed and its load got stuck underneath.

"It's clearly marked. The bridges. The height. They're clearly marked. He should've looked up before even passing," Muhamad Elkurdi said.

Police said the driver hit the Highway 290 HOV bridge and its empty tank became lodged in the concrete , causing severe damage. A driver in a red truck hit him from behind.

Trump accepts nomination at Republican National Convention

The 2016 Republican National Convention took place this week in Cleveland.

KPRC 2's Ryan Korsgard was there, providing coverage all week.

From a floor fight over rules to accusations of plagiarism, there was no shortage of drama on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

After Donald Trump made a dramatic entrance to introduce his wife, Melania, the 46-year-old former model gave a speech in which parts were taken word-for-word from Michelle Obama's speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

RNC Day 1: No shortage of drama

Donald Trump Jr. announced the New York delegation's roll-call vote putting his father, Donald Trump, over the top of the 1,237 delegates needed to become the Republican presidential nominee on Tuesday.

"It's my honor to be able to throw Donald Trump over the top in the delegate count tonight with 89 delegates," Donald Jr. said on the convention floor surrounded by three of Trump's other children -- Ivanka, Eric and Tiffany. "Congratulations Dad, we love you!"

RNC Day 2: Trump takes Republican nomination

On the penultimate night of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz wouldn’t endorse billionaire Donald Trump’s nomination for president, a move that elicited jeers and boos from the crowd.

"Don't stay home in November. … Vote your conscience," Cruz told delegates, implying that those who distrust Trump did not have to vote for him, but should back other Republicans in down-ballot races.

RNC Day 3: Cruz booed, Pence nominated

Donald Trump accepted the Republican nomination for president in Cleveland on Thursday, the last day of the Republican National Convention. In his acceptance speech, Trump painted a picture of an America sliding deeper into poverty, violence and corruption. He then said he is the only person who could avert disaster.

"Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it," Trump said.

The billionaire portrayed himself as the champion of the men and women of America who work hard but were ignored.

"I am your voice," Trump said.

Videos of deadly HPD shooting of Alva Braziel released

Houston police and Mayor Sylvester Turner released Thursday all available videos of the deadly police shooting of Alva Braziel earlier this month in southeast Houston.

But the video release did to happen at the scheduled press conference as initially expected. Instead, the mayor opted to release the recordings on the HPD YouTube channel.

Baton Rouge shooter who killed 3 officers was clearly targeting police, officials say

A former Marine dressed in black and carrying extra ammunition set out to ambush police in Baton Rouge, authorities said Monday, a day after three law enforcement officers were killed in the attack.

The gunman's "movements, his direction, his attention was on police officers," state police Col. Mike Edmonson said. He would not elaborate but said the shooter was definitely "seeking out" police.

Three other officers were wounded Sunday, one critically. The gunman was identified as Gavin Long of Kansas City, Missouri, who was black. He turned 29 on the day of the ambush and was killed in a gunbattle with police.
