Randy Travis accused of threatening to kill troopers

TIOGA, Texas - Country singer Randy Travis has been accused of threatening to kill state troopers.

Grayson County sheriff's deputies said they got a call that a man was laying down on F.M. 922 near Clover Road outside of Tioga, Texas, about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.

State troopers went to the scene and discovered that the man was Travis. He was naked, investigators said.

Travis had been involved in a single-vehicle crash and his breath smelled of alcohol, investigators said. He also displayed other signs of intoxication, officials said.

Travis refused to take a blood or breath test, so deputies got a search warrant. Travis was then taken to a hospital where blood was drawn.

Deputies said that while Travis was being transported, he threatened to shoot and kill the troopers.

Travis was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and retaliation. He was booked into the Grayson County Jail with bond set at $21,500.

Hours before his arrest, the owner of a nearby convenience store said Travis showed up there.

"A customer walked in, he was butt-naked and demanded cigarettes," said Mike Ziyadeh, owner of the Pilot Point Tiger Mart. "He was looking at his hand. He didn't even have no money on him."

This was Travis' second trip to jail this year. In February, Travis was arrested in Sanger, Texas, after he was found in front of a church with an open bottle of wine. He was booked into the Denton County Jail while he sobered up and charged with a class-C misdemeanor.
