Rain, storms move into Houston

Headline Goes Here

HOUSTON - Another round of rain and storms moved into the Houston area Thursday, for the sixth day in a row.

A flash flood warning and flood warnings were issued for southeast Texas counties, including Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Waller, Wharton and San Jacinto counties. A flash flood watch has been issued for all of southeast Texas through Thursday afternoon.

Some parts of southeast Texas got 3 inches of rain by 7 a.m. Wednesday, and it kept falling throughout the day. Some viewers reported as much as 3 to 5 inches of rain in northwest Harris County by 11 a.m. in the Cypress, Tomball and Hockley areas.

According to the National Weather Service, some street flooding was reported in Waller and Brenham. The Austin County Sheriff's Office said there were several reports of flooded roads across the northern part of the county. The water in Spring Creek in Waller County spilled out of its banks and was creeping toward F.M. 1488 Wednesday morning, but it had a long way to go before it could create traffic problems.

More rain is expected on Thursday.

"We could certainly wake up to rain once again," KPRC Local 2 chief meteorologist Frank Billingsley said. "It's just not going to take a lot to cause problems."

Billingsley said more storms are expected to develop during the day.

"At least through Thursday, another inch of rain is a good bet," he said. "As we go into Friday, we could see another half-inch to an inch of rain across the area as well."

There is a 60 percent chance of rain on Thursday and a 50 percent chance of rain on Friday and Saturday.

"Sunday, not much relief," Billingsley said. "Forty percent chances all the way down into Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday."

Every day since Saturday, isolated locations have received more than 2 inches of rain. This is thanks to an unstable weather pattern that will continue for a little while longer. The rain is certainly welcome to many who are enjoying greener lawns and gardens, and cooler temperatures.
