Pregnant woman dies after hit by car, baby survives

HOUSTON - A pregnant woman was hit by a car and killed in the Texas Medical Center on Tuesday, but her baby survived.

Houston police said 30-year-old Jennifer Young was hit as she crossed the street in the 6300 block of Main about 9:20 a.m.

Young, who was seven months along in her pregnancy, was a mathematics instructor at Rice University. Police said she was on her way to the university after an appointment in the medical center.

Young was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where her child was delivered by an emergency C-section. The child was in critical condition on Wednesday.

Young died from her injuries.

Investigators said the driver had the green light at the time of the incident. The driver stopped at the scene and was questioned and released.
