Postal carrier displays Obama sign in mail truck

WEST COLUMBIA, Texas - A U.S. mail carrier in West Columbia, Brazoria County, is in hot water after she was spotted delivering mail with an Obama-Biden political sign on the dashboard of her official vehicle.

The incident was reported last week after residents along the postal carrier's route complained about the sign.

The postal employee remains on the job while the incident is under investigation.

Officials would not say how long she has been employed with the U.S. Postal Service or if she gave a reason for having the sign displayed in her postal vehicle. A source told KPRC Local 2 that the postal employee was given the political sign by a resident on her route and she planned to take it home at the end of her shift.

However, she may still face disciplinary action.

"This is a clear violation of the Hatch Act and Postal Policy. The views and opinion expressed is (sic) not representative of the United States Postal Service and appropriate action will be taken to address the employee," said USPS spokesperson Dionne Montague, in a written statement e-mailed to KPRC.

The Hatch Act prohibits federal employees from displaying or distributing political materials.
