GALVESTON, Texas - A woman died after being hit by a drunk driver in Galveston early Saturday morning, police said.

Just after 1 a.m., witnesses told Galveston Police about a car speeding on Seawall Boulevard that skidded out of control before driving onto the beach.

Officers found the body of Amanda Medlock, 34, of Deer Park, near the 5400 block of Seawall Boulevard. Vincent Jeffus, 36, of Cleveland, Texas, was also hit by the car, but survived.

Galveston authorities said they arrested the driver of a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, Felix Dominic Garza, 29, of Texas City, after he showed signs of intoxication and refused to submit to a field sobriety test. A mandatory blood sample was taken from Garza at a nearby hospital.

Garza has been charged with manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and driving while intoxicated. His bond is set at $150,000.
