Police: Wanted man runs into stranger's apartment

HOUSTON - Wednesday started off as a typical day for a southwest Houston resident until a stranger ran into her home and locked himself inside with her 7-month old baby.

Houston police said 22-year-old Jermiah Thomas who's a "59 Bounty Hunter" Bloods gang member was running from them after they tried to execute a warrant for his arrest.

"I didn't run in there. I walked in there -- the door was open. I thought it was my cousin's house," said Thomas.

"Once we talked to him, he took off running back through the condominium, jumping gates … running into an open field and running to 8700 Braeswood," said Officer Jeffrey Oliver.

No one was hurt during the pursuit.

Police said Thomas managed to escape through the resident's back window but was later arrested across the street.

He said he was running away not because of a warrant but because he was scared.

"I'm scared of the police," said Thomas.

Thomas had outstanding warrants for possession of a controlled substance and family violence.

The woman and her baby were not injured.
