HOUSTON - A University of Houston student has been credited with discovering a suspicious device on campus that police said turned out to be a hoax.

University of Houston police said the student was looking for items to include in an art project when he discovered the device in a wooded area near the intersections of Martin Luther King Jr., Calhoun, and Wheeler.

"At no time was there an actual threat to persons or property," said University of Houston police chief Ceaser Moore. "University of Houston police investigators are attempting to determine who created and placed the hoax device."

Police have not released any information about possible suspects.
