GALVESTON, Texas - Galveston police are stressing the importance of motorcycle safety as they're already investigating two deadly crashes on the island.
The first incident happened on the seawall near East Beach Drive just after 6 p.m. Friday.
Investigators said two motorcycles crashed, killing a woman who was riding on one of the bikes. Police said she was not wearing a helmet.
About four hours later, another motorcyclist was killed during a crash as he was leaving the island along Avenue J near 61st Street. Officials said the 65-year-old rider was speeding when he lost control. Officials said he was not wearing a helmet.
The police department released the following statement:
"As we roll into the weekend, the Galveston Police Department only expects an increase of visitors and vehicles to the island. As such, we would like to stress the importance of wearing proper protective equipment when you ride a motorcycle, including a helmet."
