Police: Shoplifting suspect leaves baby in shopping cart

Priscanoi Maree Kisivuli charged with abandoning child

HOUSTON - A mother has been accused of leaving her 1-year-old daughter at a Target store after she tried to shoplift, police said.

Priscanoi Maree Kisivuli, 21, has been charged with abandoning a child.

Houston police said Kisivuli went to a Target store in the 13200 block of the Northwest Freeway on Aug. 2 with another woman.

A loss-prevention officer saw Kisivuli and the other woman, via security cameras, putting merchandise inside their personal bags.

The officer tried to stop the women and Kisivuli left the store with a young child, but she left her 1-year-old daughter in a shopping cart, investigators said.

The other woman was detained and identified Kisivuli as the woman who left the store, police said.

The child was turned over to her grandmother.

Kisivuli has not been arrested. Her criminal history includes theft and drug charges.

KPRC Local 2 went to Kisivuli's home to get her side of the story. She didn't want to talk, but a crying child could be heard from inside the home.

Children's Protective Services officials said they are investigating the incident but have not taken custody of Kisivuli's children.
