Police recover SUV of mother found dead at north Houston apartment

HOUSTON - Houston police have recovered the SUV belonging to the mother of five who was killed at her north Houston apartment Thursday morning.

The 1999 blue Dodge Durango with Texas license plates FCP-4060 was discovered at an underpass on the North Freeway feeder road at Crighton Road in Conroe around 1 a.m. Friday.

Sandra Carpio, 24, was found dead at her home in the 1900 block of Runnels around 9 a.m.  Thursday. Her five children and niece were home at the time.

Police say at least one of the children found the body, which had trauma wounds.  The children called their maternal grandmother who rushed over, then called police.

Tameyka Savoy, paternal grandmother, says Carpio has lived in the complex for several years.  Residents were shocked by the news.

"That is so sad.  My heart breaks for those kids and I just saw one of her kids say 'my mom's dead,'" said Kita Thomas, neighbor.  "That is so sad."

Shortly after the discovery of the body, two men who police said were "persons of interest" were detained in the 600 block of McKee. One of the men turned out to be Carpio's boyfriend.

"He had a friend with him and they were looking for another guy they believe is the one responsible for this lady's death," said Officer Todd Tyler of HPD.

Police also searched a nearby bayou for a possible weapon.

The children were initially taken to CPS with Caprio's mother, but police say they will stay with family members.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
