HOUSTON - An 88-year-old man was attacked and robbed in southwest Houston Wednesday, according to authorities.

Police said Rodrigo Fernandez was on his way to visit a friend in the 7500 block of Grape Street when the crime happened.

Fernandez said he had just pulled into the driveway and was getting out of the car when two young men approached him.

He said they then pushed him to the ground and stepped on his chest while they ripped his gold necklace from his neck.

Fernandez's daughter said the necklace is more than just jewelry; it's part of his family's history.

"It represents our family's voyage from Cuba to America in 1966. He has had it for 40 years. It's an expensive piece of jewelry. It's not about the price, but the sentimental value," said Anna Fernandez.

The necklace has several medallions on it and is worth $5,000, Fernandez said.

The suspects were only described as Hispanic males between 20 to 25 years old, between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 6 inches tall, and about 150 to 160 pounds.
