HOUSTON - A person who was shot five times at a house in Alief Wednesday morning has died, Houston police say.
The shooting happened in the 10400 block of Huntington Estates Drive around 11:40 a.m., and the person was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest.
Police said the shooting was sparked by a love triangle that turned deadly.
One man is dead and another is on the run, police said.
According to Houston police, two friends of the homeowner, a man and a woman, stayed at the house overnight Tuesday.
When the woman's boyfriend came to pick her up on Wednesday around noon, there was a confrontation that started in the house and moved out into the driveway, police said.
As the boyfriend tried to leave in his truck, the other man rushed outside with a hammer and smashed out a window, according to police.
The man in the truck pulled out a gun and started shooting at the man with the hammer. That man was struck by bullets five times and died on the way to the hospital, police said.
The shooter took off, taking out a mailbox as he pulled away from the driveway, according to police.
"We'll be issuing an arrest warrant on the suspect today or tomorrow, unless he wants to come in and give his side of the story," said Sgt. Matthew Brady, with HPD's Homicide Division.
The suspect is driving a black Dodge pickup with a broken rear window.
