Pearland police said they got a call about loud noises coming from a construction site on Hughes Ranch Road near Harrington shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Officers went to the scene and found a Honda Accord overturned in a ditch.

A 17-year-old girl was hanging out a window and Sanchez was covered in mud and walking around, police said.

Witnesses cut the 17-year-old from her seatbelt and moved her to the roadway. Officers checked on her and didn't find a pulse. Paramedics asked for Life Flight to come to the scene, but weather conditions were not safe to fly. The teen died a short time later. Her name has not been released.

Detectives said there was a strong odor of alcohol on Sanchez's breath. She admitted to going to a graduation party earlier that night and she had left a gas station shortly before the crash, police said. Investigators said Sanchez told them she lost control after making a turn.

Sanchez suffered minor injuries.

If convicted, Sanchez would face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
