Police: Driver wanted in hit-and-run that killed child

Driver ran red light and caused crash, police say

HOUSTON – Houston police said they are searching for the driver accused of causing a hit-and-run crash that killed a child.

The crash was reported around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday at 7700 Eastex Freeway Service Road.

A black Chrysler Sebring was traveling southbound on the service road when the male driver ran a red light at the Crosstimbers Street intersection and hit a Ford Escape, police said. The impact caused the Ford to hit a silver Cadillac STS, police say.

The driver of the Chrysler ran from the scene, police said. He is described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 30 years old.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced a child in the back seat of the Ford Escape dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Escape and a passenger in the front seat were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.
