Plane crash rattles workers near Hobby Airport

People working on Telephone Road near Hobby Airport heard something Thursday that did not sound right.

"I was changing a tire when the airplane was coming out. The engine was sputtering. And two seconds later, it just shut off and you heard the airplane crash,” said a man working at Cantu’s Auto Care.

Next, he and his neighbors found a crumpled-up airplane in the parking lot of the Ace Hardware Store.

Jameel Wadiwala works in a phone store across the road. He said he heard a loud noise and when he went outside he saw the crashed plane.

People in the area said it could have been a lot worse. There is a propane tank right beside the hardware store, near where the plane went down.

Brad Sarrazio works down the street.

"Had the plane hit the propane tank, it would probably have been like a mini bomb going off. And a lot of people would have been injured,” Sarrazio said.
