Pickup truck used to steal ATM

HOUSTON – An ATM was stolen in a smash-and-grab burglary in southwest Houston Wednesday.

Police said a dark-colored Ford pickup truck backed into the Super Way food store in the 5500 block of Renwick in the overnight hours.

Surveillance video captured three men working together to lift the security gate, pick up the ATM that was bolted to the ground and then drive off with it.

A store employee said the ATM was stocked with about $4,000 in cash.

"They took the ATM machine and I think that's the only thing they took," said Linh Nguyen. "I never thought that this would happen to us. We are a neighborhood store and have really nice people coming around."

Nguyen was left with a mess to clean up.

"The damage to the store probably to fix this, I don't know, but I estimate about $10,000 and the ATM machine, worth about $4,000 or $5,000," he said.

The crooks escaped.
