Photojournalist with KPRC 2 stops wrong-way suspected drunk driver

HOUSTON – Lives may have been saved Wednesday morning when a photojournalist who works with Channel 2 stopped a driver going the wrong way in the eastbound lanes on Westpark Tollway.

"You are the wrong way on the freeway, turn it off," the photographer said to the driver.

The driver was going about 20 mph when the photographer blew his horn and turned on his lights and got the man to pull over just before approaching a steep hill.

The two had a short conversation before the photojournalist got the man's keys, turned his car around and moved it to the shoulder.

"You drink tonight? What's going on? You okay," The photographer asked the driver.

"Yeah but I just went on the wrong way," the driver said.

"Alright well, we'll get the PD out here," the photographer said.

"Oh God," said the driver.

"I know, I know. But you can't go the wrong way," said the photographer.

Precinct 5 constables arrived and performed a sobriety test on the driver. The man's car was towed and he was arrested for driving under the influence, investigators said.

No one was injured.
