Pedestrian killed after being hit by 18-wheeler in northwest Houston

HOUSTON – A man is dead after he was struck by an 18-wheeler in northwest Harris County.

Police said the crash happened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday on Clay Road near the Sam Houston Tollway.

The man was either trying to cross the road or was standing in the road when an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound on Clay struck him, authorities said.

Police said the driver told them the man was in the first lane and the driver did not see him until it was too late.

The driver did not show any signs of intoxication and will likely not face any charges, authorities said. 

Officer's said the victim was a man in his late 30s or early 40s.

It is unclear why the man was in the road.
