PEARLAND, Texas - A death investigation is underway after authorities responded to an early-morning house fire in Pearland.

Neighbors told police they heard a gunshot and saw flames shooting out of the roof of the home in the 11700
block of Summer Brook Court around 4:10 a.m. Wednesday.

When Pearland police and fire crews arrived, they found the body of a man near the home. A gun was found by the man's body, police said.

Officials said no one else was found in or near the two-story home.

Authorities said the man lived at the house.

Pearland police say a full investigation into the fire will be conducted, but they say the death appears to be self-inflicted.
