Parents outraged over allegations surrounding teacher

Prosecutors: Lawrence Patrick touched girl 32 times

HOUSTON - Parents saif they are outraged that allegations that a piano teacher inappropriately touched children were not made public sooner.

Lawrence Patrick, 65, a former teacher at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, has been charged with three counts of indecency with a child.

According to court documents, Patrick has been accused of grabbing an 8-year-old girl's chest about 32 times while giving her private piano lessons at school.

Parent Alejandro Ariaza picked his kids up from summer camp, unaware that a former music teacher at the school had been arrested.

"They trust adults, and they're taking advantage of the situation," he said.

The school said it sent an email to parents to let them know about the allegations. In the message, Father Clint Ressler referred to another allegation involving Patrick and a 10-year-old girl in 2007.

According to court documents, the principal at the time looked into the allegations and deemed them as accidental. It was noted in Patrick's file, however, authorities were not contacted, the school said.

"The principal's file memo made in 2007 indicates that she felt she did not have cause to believe that sexual abuse had occurred," the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston said in a statement.

Lawrence Patrick has been released from jail on bond while he awaits his next court date.
