KINGWOOD, Texas - Over the last three days, a man has been cruising and scouting through neighborhoods in Kingwood, Atascocita and Humble for packages left on porches.
Homeowners said the man has been targeting homes that were flooded during Hurricane Harvey.
“He shows up at 5 p.m. That’s when everybody says he’s trying to steal packages from their front door. Rings doorbell. Nobody answers. He takes packages and goes on his merry way,” Sean Halpin said.
Halpin said he knows because it happened at his home Thursday afternoon, while he and his wife were away. Surveillance video shows the thief taking about $300 worth of merchandise that had been left on his porch.
Halpin said he uploaded the video onto the internet. He said he quickly learned at least five other homeowners had been targeted by the same man.
Halpin said others reported seeing the man and then recognized a small SUV he drives. He said the suspect drives a champagne-colored Chevy Trailblazer.
Several photos were posted online, but no one has been able to get a license plate number.
Halpin's neighborhood in Kingwood was hit hard by flooding during Harvey, which makes it an easy target.
“We have people who are trying to rebuild their lives and start shipping things to their homes,” Halpin said.
Houston police are investigating and looking for the thief.
"This guy should know this isn’t going to be tolerated by (the) city or Houston or any outlying areas," Halpin said. “I think people like him need to understand the residents are going to look out for one another and if we see your face on video cameras, (we're) going to put you all over social media.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
