Victim chases suspects after home invasion in Tomball

The crime spree ended at a business along FM 2978 in Tomball.

Police said five armed robbers were inside a black Honda Accord when it hit a curb and blew a tire.

Minutes before, they're accused of breaking into an apartment and robbing the man inside.

That man doesn't want to show his face on camera, or use his full name, in fear of retaliation.

Sammy said the men used a woman as bait. She knocked on the door and said they knew each other.

"As soon as she walked out the door, boom, in bust four people with guns blazed," he said.

They made Sammy get down on the floor as they ransacked his apartment and robbed him.

When the robbers left, Sammy followed.

He chased them a couple of miles. The whole time, someone from the back seat was firing shots.

He was struck by one bullet, and several others hit his truck.

"I was more mad than scared," he said. "I did not want them to get away with it."

And they didn't.

After the robbers eventually crashed their car, they took off running into a field behind some homes and businesses.

The police were hot on their trail.

"Three of them were hiding in the dirt area, two continued to run through the field but were being tracked by an air support unit and by K-9," Capt. Richard Grassi, Tomball police, said. "We got five bad guys off the street."
