Officials: Handcuffed suspect escapes

HOUSTON - Law-enforcement officers are searching for a suspect who escaped custody, according to authorities.

Investigators said Juan Carlos Gutierrez Quintero was last seen handcuffed in an apartment complex near I-10 and Park Ten in west Harris County.

According to officials, it all started started around 7 a.m. Sunday when a DPS Trooper pulled the suspect over for driving 113 mph on I-10.

Authorities said the suspect had a warrant for arrest for a violation of a protection order. Officials said the trooper handcuffed the suspect and put him in the back of a patrol unit.

The officer said he found a bottle of hydrocodone in the car.

At some point, officials said one of the three people in the car with the suspect helped him escape the vehicle. Authorities said the suspect took off and, at last check, is still missing.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police.
