'Obvious signs of intoxication' in fatal car crash, police say

The District Attorney announced Sunday morning it would accept intoxicated manslaughter charges.

The announcement came after one person was killed after a Nissan Murano ran a red light and hit a Ford Fusion, Houston police said.

The crash happened around 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Houston and Washington Avenues in Houston.

The driver of the Nissan Murano was traveling at a high rate of speed, ran a red light and hit the Fusion, police said.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the intersection, caught by surveillance cameras that caught the crash.

The driver of the Nissan Murano and its passenger displayed "obvious signs of intoxication," Houston police said.

The driver of the Fusion was pronounced dead at Ben Taub hospital.
